The Haul 32 carries better loaded than it does empty — a rare and revealing trait. A few small misses on the hip belt and a back panel that runs hot under 30 pounds keep it from running the table, but once the weight is in, the bag disappears.

On paper, it's everything.
The pitch for the Haul 32 writes itself. Thirty-two liters of frame-loaded architecture from a brand with a small, devoted following. A price that says “premium” without begging to be called boutique. A strap system that reads wide, cushioned, load-lifter-equipped. A back panel built like something engineered, not something styled. On the rack, it's the bag that makes the bag next to it look careless.
That's the setup. The carry is the payoff. And the carry tells a more interesting story than the spec sheet does.

The load: where it earns its reputation.
The Haul 32's single best trick is this: it carries better loaded than empty. That's rare. Most bags get worse as weight goes in — straps dig, panels flex, the bag migrates away from your back looking for somewhere easier to be. The Haul 32 does the opposite. Empty, it feels like a board. Load it past ten pounds and it wakes up. By twenty, it's quiet. By thirty, it's one of the most composed carries I've had in six months of testing.
The frame panels are the reason. Instead of a suspended sheet of foam that tries to float the load off your back, Northforge built a layered stack that forces the load to sit through the panels and directly into your hip structure. The physics stop lying once the bag is actually carrying weight. Below fifteen pounds there's no load for the panels to channel, so you get the stiffness without the benefit. Above fifteen, the trade pays out.
The strap: close, not perfect.
The straps are wide, the foam is dense, and the load lifters actually lift load. Three things a lot of premium bags still get wrong. The Haul 32 gets all three right, and then it gives one of them back.
The attachment geometry — the angle at which the straps leave the yoke and meet the shoulders — is tuned for a broad-chested carrier. If you're narrower through the shoulders than average, the straps ride inward toward the neck and start pinching at around mile two. It's not catastrophic. You feel it, you shrug against it, you keep walking. But on a bag this otherwise composed, it's the place where the test breaks.
A five-degree camber on the strap anchors would solve it. Northforge will almost certainly fix it in V2.

The back panel: a small, honest complaint.
The lumbar shape is right. The chest venting channels air the way channels are supposed to. But the center channel is shallow — maybe six millimeters where it wants to be twelve — and under heavy carry in warm weather you feel it. On a 60-degree day at twenty pounds, it's invisible. On a 74-degree day at thirty, my back was a mess by mile one. Not a dealbreaker for a bag that's going to spend its life in airports and offices. A real issue for anyone planning to ruck with it in July.
The fit: good for most, great for fewer.
Northforge made one sizing call — a single torso length — and it's a confident one. If you're between five-ten and six-two with average-to-broad shoulder width, this bag fits you the way a good jacket fits. If you're outside that window — shorter torso, smaller frame, narrower build — you're going to fight the geometry in ways that don't ever fully resolve, even after break-in. Twelve out of fifteen points isn't a complaint about what the bag does. It's a complaint about who the bag is for.
The summary the spec sheet won't write.
The Haul 32 is an Elite-tier bag with a few small edges still being sanded off. It lost nine points across four categories, not one. That's the mark of something almost fully realized — a bag designed by people who carry, built by people who care, released one revision too early. A V2 of this thing in eighteen months is going to be the bag to beat in its price band. For right now, it's a 91 — a real 91, not a “we rounded up because the brand was nice” 91.
Buy it if you fit it. Wait for V2 if you don't.
